Диаграмма силового поведения простейших механич. элементов в координатах «напряжение — деформация» или «напряжение — скорость деформации», моделирующая поведение сплошных сред. Три фундаментальных св-ва реальных материалов — упругость, пластичность и вязкость — представляются в виде механич. системы: упругость — пружиной, пластичность — грузом на плоскости, вязкость — цилиндром с поршнем, к-рый при перемещении вытесняет жидкость через зазор у стенок цилиндра. Простейшие модели сред: линейно-упругая, подчин. закону Гука о = ?е; линейно-вязкая, подчин. закону вязкости Ньютона ст = r\(dt/dt); жесткая, идеально- пластическая — груза, жестко-пластич. среда с линейным упрочнением — параллельное соединение пружины и груза и др.); упруго-вязкие модели (среда Максвелла — последовательное соединение цилиндра и пружины, моделир. релаксацию напряжений; среда Фо(й)гта — паралл. соединение этих элементов, отражающая ползучесть; вязко-пластич. модели (среда Шведова—Бингама —паралл. соединение цилиндра и груза и др); более сложные модели, напр., среда Кельвина, где к упруго-вязкому паралл. элементу последоват. подсоединен упругий элемент.
